New Year gifts reach Hon Chuoi Island
PANO - On December 22, the working delegation of Naval Region 5, delegates from 10 Southern provinces and cities, enterprises, and reporters from local and central press agencies and television stations visited and sent New Year greetings to troops and people on Hon Chuoi Island after completing activities in the Nam Du Archipelago.
Located in Song Doc townlet, Tran Van Thoi district, Ca Mau province, Hon Chuoi Island is about 32km from the mainland to the west.
Hon Chuoi is one of the important islands in the southwest of the country. It is one of the five islands within the Youth Island Construction Project approved by the Prime Minister along with Tran Island (Co To island district, Quang Ninh province), Tho Chu Island (Phu Quoc city, Kien Giang province), Bach Long Vi Island (Hai Phong city), and Con Co Island (Quang Tri province).
The life of the people on the island mainly depends on fish cage farming and fishing. In spite of being located near the mainland, people on the island are facing numerous difficulties since there is no medical station and national school system. To ensure children’s right to education, local authorities have worked with Hon Chuoi Border Post and Radar Station 615 to open a class for students. The class with 21 students from the 1st and 7th grades has been recognized as one of the education establishments of Song Doc townlet’s education system.
Over the past years, thanks to the care of the central and local governments, including the party committees, authorities, and people of southern provinces and cities, the life of troops and people on Hon Chuoi Island has been improved. Troops and islanders always stay united and help each other in economic development and firm protection of national sovereignty over sea and islands.
Gifts from the mainland aimed to encourage troops and people on the island to overcome all difficulties and continue to contribute their part to firmly protecting national sovereignty over sea and islands. They also showed the care of the party organizations, authorities, and people of Southern provinces and cities to the southwestern islands, contributing to connecting the mainland with the island troops and people.
