PANO - The Ministry of National Defense (MND) on November 29 held a conference in Hanoi to make public plans on organizing activities to mark the 70th anniversary of the Vietnamese Day for Martyrs and Wounded Soldiers (July 27, 1947-2017) under the chair of Lieutenant General Le Chiem, Deputy Defense Minister.
Based on Plan No.9799 approved on October 7, 2016 by the MND, agencies and units under the ministry have been actively carrying out activities with the aim of popularizing the event and showing gratitude to national contributors, promoting emulation movements and staging artistic and cultural performances.

The Ministry has also proposed the Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs to present the insignia “For the cause of labor, invalids and social affairs” to 621 military cadres in recognition of their outstanding achievements in directing the implementation of social policy work.
Notably, the People’s Army Newspaper, the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) and the Department of Policy under the General Department of Politics launched a contest on the knowledge of Vietnamese martyrs and wounded soldiers in celebration of the event. So far, the organizing panel has received more than 15,000 entries for the ongoing qualifying rounds.
Moreover, the Department of Policy has teamed with other relevant agencies and units to direct their constituent units to deal with post-war issues regarding the recognition of martyrs and wounded soldiers and to step up the search for martyrs’ remains.
Military units have also been active in building gratitude houses and offering free health checkups and medicines to policy beneficiaries.
In conclusion, Lieutenant General Le Chiem asked relevant agencies and units to concretize their plans to help raise public awareness of the Party’s and State’s policies for national contributors and actively take care of policy beneficiaries in remote and mountainous areas.
The general also noted that military regions, corps and units to submit reports on their activities after the Lunar New Year festival so that the ministry could have timely directions for the celebration of the event.
