Senior Lieutenant General Luong Cuong speaking at the conference
The meeting also agreed that military units thoroughly grasped and strictly implemented the instructions and resolutions of the Party, State, Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defense and actively renewed their implementation methods, making contributions to building an army with political and combat strength. In addition, they actively combated hostile forces’ “peaceful evolution” plots in the cultural and ideological realm, effectively carried out mass mobilization and policy work, search and rescue missions, and participated in overcoming consequences of natural disasters, protecting the environment.
At the event, the participants also pointed out shortcomings in executing missions.
General Cuong asked units to focus on building a politically strong army and to effectively bring the Resolutions of the 12th National Party Congress and the 10th Military Party Congress into life. He also requested military units to promote ideological and political education for troops, ensuring that they absolutely believe in the leadership of the Party, Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, and are ready to undertake and fulfill all assigned tasks.
* The same day, the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army reviewed achievements in carrying out staff work in 2016 and mapped out missions for 2017.
Accordingly, staff units actively raised their troops' capabilities to meet the requirements of missions. In 2016, more than 3,380 cadres were trained on natural disaster relief and search and rescue missions. Military units mobilized over 213,600 participating troops and 13,131 vehicles to help people overcome the consequences of natural disasters and conduct search and rescue missions.
The meeting determined that in 2017 staff units should focus on combat readiness, search and rescue, and training missions. In the short term, agencies, units and localities should well prepare for the enlistment drive of 2017.
* At the meeting to review military logistics work in 2016, Lieutenant General Tran Don, Deputy Defense Minster, acknowledged agencies’ and units’ achievements in ensuring logistics for defense and military missions. He requested them to work out solutions to overcome shortcomings to raise the efficiency of the work for the following years.
