PANO – For those who are on mission of defending national sea and islands in Nui Le Island of Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago, two black and blue kites flying over the area have been very familiar.
The kites attracting visitors at the first sight are in fact the moving shooting targets for troops to practice skills of discovering, tracking and attacking the air targets and at the same time help them relax after a hard training day.
Private-first-class Nguyen Thanh Tay, a soldier on Nui Le Island, said that because of their important role, troops on the island preserved the kites very carefully. These kites give young troops strength and confidence to fulfill the sacred mission of defending national sovereignty over sea and islands.
He added that these kites reminded him of his peaceful coastal hometown in Cam Ranh city, Khanh Hoa province where local people of different ages gathered to beaches to fly colorful kites made from bamboo and papers in windy summer afternoons. He and his friends learned to make kites from experienced kite makers.
