The delegation also inspected and assessed the local situation, particularly the dissemination of laws on preventing illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing to fishermen.

At the meeting, Deputy Head of Tho Chau Border Post Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Tu briefed the delegation on the local political security and social order situation, the coordination in managing and protecting the sovereignty over sea and islands and key achievements in raising fishermen’s awareness of and compliance with legal regulations on fishing activities, especially those related to IUU prevention.

The unit has closely coordinated with relevant forces on the island to implement various flexible and appropriate communication models tailored to different groups. It has also regularly maintained patrols and inspections to strictly manage fishing vessel operations, ensuring there are no violations by fishing boats or fishermen within the local waters.

On behalf of the Party Committee and Chain-of-Command of the An Giang Provincial Border Guard Command Senior Colonel Tran Ngoc Chau praised the officers and soldiers of Tho Chau Border Post for their perseverance in and dedication to steadfastly safeguarding the nation’s maritime frontiers.

He emphasized that in the time ahead, the unit should continue to promote its core role in law dissemination and public awareness campaigns on combating IUU fishing; strengthen inspection and supervision efforts; promptly detect, prevent, and strictly handle violations, thereby contributing to the national effort in removing the E.C.’s “yellow card” warning and promoting the sustainable development of Vietnam’s fisheries sector.
