According to Deputy Director of Military Hospital 6 under Military Region 2 Major Hoang Ngoc Hai, after discussing with the Lao side, the hospital adjusted the schedule and sent its medical staff to arrive at the examination site earlier than planned to make thorough preparation for the event to ensure that local people did not have to wait.
Head of the Medical Center of Sop Bao district Namphone Phommalit said that knowing about the program, local people were excited and gathered early. “It has been a long time since they welcomed such a large group of military doctors, including many skilled physicians from military hospitals across Vietnam and Laos, so everyone is very excited,” Namphone Phommalit said.

During the event, military doctors from the two sides made use of classrooms, functional rooms, and the schoolyard to set up a medical examination area. Doctors and nurses from the two militaries and localities of the two countries wholeheartedly provided health examination for local people, while troops from the Border Post of Long Sap Border Gate of the Son La provincial Border Guard Command acted as interpreters.

According to Deputy Director of the Military Medical Department of the General Department of Logistics Senior Colonel Le Van Dong, apart from providing health check-up, medical staff of the two countries actively disseminated healthcare information and equipped locals with methods to protect their families’ health from common diseases.
According to the organizing panel, on October 13, about 700 local residents had their health checked. They were also presented with medicine bags, worth VND 400,000 each.

On October 14, military medical staff of Vietnam and Laos organized a similar event at the Vietnam-Laos military-civilian infirmary in Long Sap commune, Moc Chau district, Son La province, as the last event in the second “Vietnam-Laos Border Defense Friendship Exchange.”
