The meeting aimed to discuss issues relating to bilateral defense cooperation and ASEAN Chairmanship Year 2020.

At the meeting, the two sides agreed on ways to remove obstacles caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and further promote defense cooperation as well as build a new cooperation plan in the coming time.

They also discussed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on bilateral defense cooperation after the previous MOU was signed in 2009.

Both sides also underscored the importance and effectiveness of the defense policy dialogue mechanisms at the deputy ministerial-level and the joint working group.

On the occasion, both sides highly appreciated the outcomes of the bilateral cooperation since the seventh joint working group between the two defense ministries, particularly cooperation activities in delegation exchange, military medicine, navy and air force.

The Singapore side affirmed that the country will increase the two countries’ ties, focusing on promoting coordination at multilateral forums and supporting Vietnam to successfully fulfill its duty as the ASEAN Chair in 2020.
