Facing harsh local conditions and aiming for highest possible results in the upcoming COE inspection, the Party Committee and Chain-of-Command of the Vietnamese unit launched a competition built on four core criteria, namely discipline, unity, creativity, and efficiency.
This initiative has helped transform the typically rigid logistics and technical services into a vibrant emulation movement, showcasing the self-reliance, resilience, and professionalism of Vietnamese blue-berets taking on international duties.

Lieutenant Colonel Trinh Van Cuong, Commanding Officer of the Engineering Company Rotation 4, shared that the goal of this competition was not just to score high in the COE inspection. More importantly, it reinforced a disciplined, unified military lifestyle and sparked creativity to improve material living conditions of Vietnamese peacekeepers in this difficult area.
Taking place from November 5 to 18, the competition content was divided into two target groups.
Discipline and unity - foundation of iron military discipline
This set of criteria helped observe combat readiness regulations and adhere to the U.N.’s stringent technical standards.
Participants practiced standardizing COE procedures and performing combat readiness in weapon storage. Specifically, staff, logistics-technical, and medical forces competed in arranging COE containers in full compliance with regulations. The task required absolute precision so that every item is “easy to see, easy to retrieve, easy to check,” reflecting the unit’s uniform standards and maximum readiness.
In the weapons storage competition, both neat organization and absolute safety were emphasized. Weapons maintenance, preservation, and management procedures were thoroughly inspected.
In addition, teams were also evaluated on their scientific management, preservation, and maintenance of vehicles, machinery, and equipment, including documentation and records, to ensure the best technical conditions in the harsh desert environment.
Creativity and efficiency: fueling self-reliance and resilience
If discipline is seen as a firm basis, creativity provides momentum for survival and improved quality of life.

Teams planned and cared for unit gardens and food production areas. In a place with scarce fresh supplies, creative approaches to recycling materials and selecting suitable plant varieties demonstrated a refusal to surrender to hardship. They also competed in maintaining green, clean, and beautiful barracks and improving sanitation facilities.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Cong, Political Commissar of the Company, emphasized that “This is an effective way to prevent disease, especially malaria, and it is also a creative approach to building a safe, refreshing living environment amid Abyei’s harsh conditions.”
The combination of iron discipline and strong self-reliance stood as proof of the credibility and capability of Vietnam’s peacekeeping forces. It ensured not only professional readiness but also stable living conditions, preparing the unit for any international mission. Through these efforts, Vietnamese peacekeepers continued to embody the humanistic spirit of the Uncle Ho’s soldiers, contributing to a peaceful, stable, and developing Abyei.
