The high-ranking Vietnamese military delegation pays a courtesy call on Myanmar Vice President Myint Swe.

This is the first visit of General Giang to Myanmar as the Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army.

During a courtesy call on First Vice President of the Republic of Union of Myanmar Myint Swe on the afternoon of September 25, General Giang thanked the host for a warm reception and conveyed regards of Vietnamese leaders to Myanmar leaders.

The Vietnamese Chief of the General Staff emphasized that Myanmar and Vietnam established their diplomatic ties early and expressed gratitude to the Myanmar Government for their support in the past and during the current cause of national construction and protection.

Informing Vice President Myint Swe of the outcome of the talks between the high-ranking military delegations of Vietnam and Myanmar in the morning, General Giang believed that with the two sides’ high determination, the bilateral defense cooperation will further develop for benefits of each country and the region.

For his part, Vice President Myint Swe confirmed that Vietnam is a Myanmar’s friend and reliable partner and that Myanmar always attaches much importance to developing the comprehensive cooperation and partnership with Vietnam with defense ties as an important pillar.

The official reception for the high-ranking Vietnamese military delegation

Highly valuing the fruitful cooperation between the two militaries over the past time, the Myanmar Vice President affirmed that the Government of Myanmar will continue to support and create favorable conditions for both sides to develop the bilateral military-defense ties in an intensive, practical, and effective manner for mutual interests of the two peoples in the time to come.

Earlier, in the morning, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Commander-in-Chief of the Myanmar Armed Forces chaired a solemn reception for the Vietnamese military delegation at the headquarters of the Myanmar Armed Forces Command.

At the talks held right after the reception, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing underscored the good traditional ties and friendship between the two countries in general and between the two militaries in particular. He showed high respect for the Vietnamese military’s status and stated that Vietnam was the first country he officially visited in 2011 after taking office.

The two sides agreed that on the basis of the bilateral defense cooperation agreement signed in 2011 during the visit to Vietnam paid by Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, the bilateral defense cooperation has seen strong developments, especially in exchange of delegations at all levels, personnel training, and military medicine.

The two sides reached consensus on bringing into full play bilateral defense cooperation potentials to promote cooperation between military services and corps, send naval ships to visit each country, enhance cooperation and coordination between the two border protection forces in transnational crime prevention and control as well as in defense industry and logistics.

The Myanmar general also stressed his support for Vietnam when the country takes over ASEAN Chair in 2020.

On the occasion, General Giang conveyed the regards of Vietnamese Minister of National Defense General Ngo Xuan Lich to Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.

* Also in the morning, the Vietnamese military delegation, led by General Giang, laid wreaths at the monument dedicated to heroes and martyrs.
