Gen. Tien (R) presents a gift to visiting Eamon O’Shaughnessy |
General Tien, Deputy Chief of the General Staff, made that statement while hosting a reception for visiting Eamon O’Shaughnessy, Director of the International Branch at the New Zealand Ministry of Defense, on October 29 at the MND’s headquarters.
At the meeting, the Vietnamese general stressed that Vietnam highly values New Zealand’s role in the international and regional arenas and is willing to boost its friendship, and equal and win-win cooperation with the country in all aspects, based on the two countries’ comprehensive partnership, which is hoped to be advanced toward a strategic partnership.
Regarding the bilateral defense cooperation, General Tien highlighted the effective implementation of the ties in line with the contents of the Memorandum of Understanding on defense cooperation signed in 2013 and the Peacekeeping Operations Training and Cooperation Implementing Arrangement signed in 2017 between the two sides.
The host suggested the two sides continue promoting exchange of delegations at all levels, bringing into play such cooperation areas as dialogue and consultation mechanisms, personnel training and UN peacekeeping operations as well as seeking new cooperation opportunities in cyber security, search and rescue, and others, to meet each side’s demands.
For his part, the guest informed the host of the results of the consultation meeting on Vietnam-New Zealand defense cooperation which had taken place earlier on the same day in Hanoi.
Eamon O’Shaughnessy held that his country is ready to share experience in UN peacekeeping operations with Vietnam.
