Vietnam, New Zealand continue cementing defense ties
PANO - Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Defense Minister, hosted visiting Air Vice Marshal Tony Davies, Vice Chief of Defense Force of New Zealand, on August 2 at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense.

On behalf of the Ministry of National Defense’s leaders, General Giang hailed the working visit of New Zealand’s senior officer and stressed the effective implementation of the bilateral defense ties in various fields, making active contributions to the Vietnam-New Zealand comprehensive partnership.
On the occasion, General Giang thanked the Defense Ministry of New Zealand for English training programs for Vietnamese troops.
For his part, Air Vice Marshal Tony Davies thanked the host for a warm reception and informed him of his earlier talks with Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Ngoc Minh, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, during which the two sides discussed and agreed on cooperation contents for the coming time.
Valuing highly the outcomes of the aforementioned talks, General Giang underscored that leaders of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense always create conditions for the two militaries to reinforce their ties, contributing to the enhanced relationship, cooperation, mutual understanding and trust between the two countries and militaries.
Earlier, at the talks between Air Vice Marshal Tony Davies and Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Ngoc Minh, the two sides reviewed achievements in the bilateral defense cooperation, exchanged measures to boost the ties in line with the Memorandum of Understanding on promoting the bilateral defense ties signed in 2013 and the cooperation plan for the 2018-2021 period.
They agreed to boost defense cooperation activities with a focus on all-level delegation exchanges, education and training, search and rescue, disaster relief, UN-peacekeeping operation-related experience sharing.
