Senior Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Deputy Head of the Intersectoral Working Group, and Deputy Head of the MND’s Steering Committee on Participation in U.N. Peacekeeping Operations, chaired the event, which took place at the headquarters of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations (VNDPKO) in Hanoi and was virtually connected with Military Hospital 175 in Ho Chi Minh City.

At the meeting, heads of the L2FH Rotation 5 and Engineering Company Rotation 2 reported on the outcomes of the units during their working term in UNMISS and UNISFA, respectively, drew lessons in terms of expertise, unit management, safety and security guarantee, and made proposals to help better the preparation and deployment of engineering companies and L2FHs to Abyei and South Sudan in the future.

In his speech, VNDPKO Director Major General Pham Manh Thang spoke highly of the task accomplishment of Engineering Company Rotation 2. He said that they received big applause and high appreciation from the UNISFA’s leaders and international friends, and respect and love from local people. He emphasized that the L2FH Rotation 5 and its eight members were awarded with the certificates of merit of the UNMISS’s Force Commander for their excellent fulfillment of tasks.

The VNDPKO leader said that the department is completing procedures to give suggestions to higher levels to commend and reward the two units and its staff for their outstanding task performance.

Addressing the conference, Gen. Tan hailed the VNDPKO and relevant agencies and units for their effective coordination, direction and management of the two units during their task implementation. He highly praised the Engineering Company Rotation 2 and L2FH Rotation 5 for their outcomes in carrying out tasks.

He emphasized the peacekeepers’ attainments, saying that they helped beautify the traditions of Uncle Ho’s soldiers and the image of “blue beret” soldiers among Vietnamese people and international friends.

The GS leader asked relevant agencies and units to continue supporting the VNDPKO to implement its tasks, and study the adjustment of training programs for future peacekeepers. He also requested the coordination among the Department of Military Medicine, Military Medical University, and Military Hospital 175 to devise a plan on the launch of an e-hospital system to facilitate distance treatment and make report to higher levels for approval.
