Vietnam, EU to boost defense cooperation
PANO – Deputy Defense Minister, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh received Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service Jean-Christophe Belliard on April 26 at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense.
At the reception, the host and the guest highly valued the cooperation of the EU and Vietnam, especially in the defense and security fields over the past time.
Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service Jean-Christophe Belliard hoped to receive a high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense to the Meeting of the EU Chiefs of Defense scheduled in May in Brussels, Belgium.
Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh thanked the EU’s financial support for officers to attend a number of refresher courses held by the EU and warmly welcomed EU instructors to the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations to assist Vietnam in training Vietnamese personnel in this field.
Gen. Vinh hoped that the EU would continue supporting Vietnam with the training of its peacekeeping officers to join peacekeeping missions in Africa and the training of interpreters for Vietnam when it chairs ASEAN by 2020. He also invited naval ships of the EU member countries to Vietnam.
The Vietnamese general believed that the Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service would pay more attention to and provide more favorable conditions for the development of the bilateral defense cooperation, contributing to the all-sided relations between Vietnam and the EU.
