After the welcoming ceremony, the two sides held talks. During the talks, the AFP’s Chief-of-staff welcomed Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong and the VPA’s high-ranking military delegation to the country. Highly appreciating the development of Vietnam in general and the VPA in particular, Lieutenant General Bartolome Vicente Bacarro sincerely thanked the Vietnamese troops and people for their support to troubled Filipino fishermen at sea.
The AFP’s Chief-of-staff affirmed that the visit of Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong not only strengthened the relationship between the two militaries, but also contributed to the Vietnam - Philippines strategic partnership.

For his part, the Vietnamese chief of the General Staff thanked the Filipino side for the thoughtful and warm welcome and emphasized that Vietnam and the Philippines are two countries having a shared sea border and are active members in the ASEAN community. Over the past years, in the spirit of the strategic partnership and Defense Ministry-level cooperation agreement signed by the two sides, the cooperation between the two militaries has seen good results, contributing to boosting the bilateral relations in many fields in more a substantive and effective manner.
On behalf of the visiting Vietnamese high-ranking military delegation, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong expressed deep sympathy over the losses that people in South Philippines suffered recently due to typhoon Nalgae. He said that like Vietnam, the Philippine Armed Forces always shows its pro-activeness and stand by the people to respond to and overcome consequences of natural disasters and help them stabilize their life.

At the talks, agencies and units of the VPA and the Philippine Armed Forces proposed many contents and methods to foster cooperation in such fields as exchange of high-level delegations, naval cooperation, training, sharing of information and work experience, and support to each other at multilateral forums, especially mechanisms within ASEAN which Vietnam and the Philippines are both active members.
Vietnamese Chief of the General Staff Nguyen Tan Cuong and Chief-of-staff of the Philippine Armed Forces Bartolome Vicente Bacarro highly appreciated the ideas and contents proposed at the meeting. The two delegations’ heads agreed that in the coming time, the two sides will actively implement cooperation contents in a practical and effective manner to ensure that the friendly relationship between the VPA and the Philippines Armed Forces will further develop for the benefit of each country as well as for peace, stability, and common prosperity of the region.

On behalf of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong invited the leaders of the Ministry of National Defense and the Commander of the Armed Forces of the Philippines to the Vietnam International Defense Expo 2022 slated for this December.
* The same day, the Philippine Navy solemnly held a ceremony to welcome Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong. Briefed on the Philippines’ naval force and listened to cooperation contents with the Vietnam People's Navy by the Philippines Navy Commander, the Vietnamese chief of the General Staff hoped that the two navies will strengthen solidarity and exchange and diversify cooperation contents and forms to ensure the practical, effective, and in-depth development of the relations.
