He shared that due to the terrain conditions of mountainous areas and scattered populations, including a high proportion of the Tay and the Nung ethnic minority groups, many local people are hesitant to visit hospitals and still lack knowledge about heathcare which could worsen their health if not addressed early. Therefore, the program to provide free health check-ups and medicine is considered a meaningful and practical event, showing the care of the Party, the State, the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defense for local people’s health. Through the program, people also have a chance to access high-quality healthcare services provided by skilled military medical personnel.

On April 14, many people from Cao Loc district stood in line to receive the free healthcare services. With a total of 16 clinical examination stations and six specialized areas, covering internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics, pediatrics, ENT, ophthalmology, urology, X-ray, ECG, biochemical and hematology testing, Vietnamese and Chinese military doctors worked wholeheartedly to serve local residents.

By the end of the first day, a total of 786 patients had their health checked and received free medicines.

Senior Colonel Luu Truong Thanh Hung, Deputy Director of the Military Institute of Traditional Medicine and Head of the Vietnamese military medical team, noted that this year’s event was special. He explained that this was the first time both sides had deployed military medical teams to conduct the program in each other’s areas. He stressed that such a large-scale deployment of highly-specialized personnel to remote border areas required thorough preparation, not only in terms of personnel but also in ensuring the transportation of modern equipment and sufficient quantities of medicine.

Senior Colonel Hung stated that the teams had tried their best with the shared target of helping people in border areas access modern medicine and advanced treatment methods.

Regarding the Chinese medical personnel, he added that they showed their professionalism, always arriving ahead of time and preparing their equipment thoroughly. The Chinese doctors carefully examined each patient, communicated in a warm and attentive way, and worked closely with the Vietnamese doctors to decide on the best treatment for every case.

Senior Colonel Hung held that after each day of work, the two teams work together to review what had been done and plan for the next day. He said that the close and efficient cooperation between the Vietnamese and Chinese military medical teams made a good impression on local people in the border area and strengthened the image of military doctors.
