Philippine coast guard vessel makes first port call to Vietnam
PANO - The vessel BRP Gabriela Silang of the Philippine Coast Guard, with 84 officers and crew-members on board, led by Captain Eleizer Gonzales Ibarientos, docked at Tien Sa port on April 14, starting a four-day courtesy visit to the Central city of Da Nang.
An official welcome ceremony for the Philippine Coast Guard delegation was attended by representatives from the Coast Guard Region 2 Command, the Da Nang municipal People’s Committee, the Military Region 5 Command, the Military Command of Da Nang City, the Da Nang municipal Border Guard Command, the Department of Foreign Relations, the Naval Region 3 Command and several other relevant agencies under the Ministry of National Defense.
During the visit, the Deputy Commander of the Philippine Coast Guard and the vessel’s commanding officers will meet with representatives of the Da Nang municipal People’s Committee and the Coast Guard Region 2 Command.
The Philippine officers and crew-members will visit and engage in sports exchanges at the Coast Guard Region 2 Command; and joint training on search and rescue, fire prevention, and firefighting with the Vietnam Coast Guard.
This is the first time a ship of the Philippine Coast Guard has visited Vietnam. The visit is of great significance and a practical activity aimed at realizing the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two forces in January 2024.
Through this visit, the officers and soldiers of both forces have the opportunity to exchange experience in law enforcement at sea, which help enhance the friendship relations, cooperation, mutual understanding, and trust between the Vietnam Coast Guard and the Philippine Coast Guard in the coming time.
