The event took place as part of the VPA high-level political delegation’s official visit to Algeria.
The visit is significant as the two countries upgraded their relations to a strategic partnership in November 2025, creating a foundation for further deepening bilateral defense cooperation in general and cooperation in military-political affairs in particular.

At the talks, Gen. Said Chengriha said the visit represented a new step in strengthening military cooperation and would help elevate ties between the two militaries, serving the interests of both countries.
Recalling Algeria’s support for and solidarity with the Vietnamese people during their struggle for national independence and reunification, Gen. Said Chengriha affirmed that the history of struggle and solidarity between the two peoples provides a foundation for developing their friendship and cooperation today. The PNA attaches importance to consolidating the foundation for military cooperation with the VPA across various fields, particularly military history, training, and defense industry.

The Algerian general affirmed the country’s readiness to continue promoting cooperation between the two militaries and expressed his belief that the visit would produce practical results and contribute to the development of bilateral relations.
For his part, General Nguyen Trong Nghia emphasized that building on the solid foundation of bilateral relations, defense cooperation between the two countries has achieved notable results in delegation exchanges, training cooperation, and information and communications. He expressed his sincere appreciation to Algeria for sending experts to Viet Nam to teach French and Arabic, as well as for supporting the training of Vietnamese military personnel attending courses in Algeria.
To further deepen defense cooperation in general and cooperation in political and ideological affairs within the military in particular, General Nguyen Trong Nghia proposed that the two sides continue to coordinate on key areas in the coming period, including delegation exchanges, particularly high-level contacts; training cooperation; defense industry; logistics; and communications, with a view to helping international friends and the peoples of the two countries gain a better understanding of the valuable traditional relationship between Viet Nam and Algeria and between their two militaries.
Regarding training cooperation, the Vietnamese general expressed his hope that Algeria would consider increasing training quotas for Vietnamese military personnel in fields where Algeria has strengths. He affirmed that the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense (MND) is ready to welcome Algerian military trainees to Viet Nam to study Vietnamese and attend the International Defense Officials Course in Viet Nam.
General Nguyen Trong Nghia said that in December 2026, the Vietnamese MND will organize the third Viet Nam Defense Expo. On the basis of an invitation extended by Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang, he welcomed a delegation of Algerian MND leaders to pay an official visit to Viet Nam and attend the expo.

Regarding foreign policy, General Nguyen Trong Nghia emphasized that Viet Nam will remain steadfast in pursuing a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation and development; diversification and multilateralization of its relations; and a policy of being a friend, a trusted partner, and an active and responsible member of the international community. Viet Nam will proactively and actively pursue extensive and effective international integration, making practical contributions to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world. In this process, Viet Nam attaches importance to and hopes to continue receiving the companionship, support and effective cooperation of countries, including Algeria.
On the occasion, he presented Gen. Said Chengriha with the Arabic-language copyright for publication of the book “Dien Bien Phu” by General Vo Nguyen Giap in accordance with the wishes of General Vo Nguyen Giap's family, believing that the publication would help the peoples of the two countries, particularly younger generations and international friends, gain a deeper understanding of the Dien Bien Phu Victory and Viet Nam-Algeria solidarity and friendship.
He also presented the documentary Viet Nam-Algeria: Far Yet Close, produced by the Military Broadcasting Center, as a gift from the Vietnamese MND to the Government, people and MND of Algeria.
