Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Head of the MND’s Steering Committee for the Participation in U.N. Peacekeeping Operations, chairs the meeting.

At the meeting, delegates heard the Defense Minister’s decision on establishing the steering committee, a draft report on the implementation of legal documents on participation in U.N. peacekeeping operations, and a report on the preparation of the dossier requesting the building of a law on Vietnam's participation in the U.N. peacekeeping operations.

Over the past time, the participation in U.N. peacekeeping operations has been synchronously and effectively carried out with important outcomes and highly appreciated and acknowledged by leaders of the Party, State, and Government. Recent achievements have created positive effects on Vietnam’s responsibility to international community and the U.N. The system of legal documents on participation in U.N. peacekeeping operations is relatively complete. Resolution 130/2020/QH14 of the National Assembly on joining the U.N. peacekeeping operations is consistent and synchronous with the Constitution 2013, the Law on National Defense in 2018, and the Law on Public Security in 2018.

Reports revealed that Vietnamese peacekeepers have been well-trained to enhance their capability, while the dissemination of information and law on Vietnam's participation in U.N. peacekeeping operations have been strengthened.

Having heard delegates’ opinions, Gen. Chien lauded the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations (VNDPKO) and relevant agencies and units for their activeness and pro-activeness in preparing for the meeting. He emphasized the political determination in building the law on Vietnam's participation in U.N. peacekeeping operations, saying that it will continue to prove that Vietnam is a responsible member of the U.N.

Emphasizing that the draft report on the implementation of legal documents on participation in U.N. peacekeeping operations is one of the important contents in the dossier requesting the building of the law on Vietnam's participation in U.N. peacekeeping operations, the deputy defense minister asked the VNDPKO to collaborate with relevant agencies and units to collect delegates’ reports and revise and complete the draft report before sending it the ministries and agencies to collect opinions.

Gen. Chien also requested to make thorough preparation for a conference to review the implementation of legal documents on Vietnam's participation in U.N. peacekeeping operations and accelerate the building of the dossier.
