These activities have been highly appreciated by leaders and people of the two countries, contributing to tightening special solidarity and friendship between Long An and the two Cambodian provinces.

Wholeheartedly caring for people

Returning from Hanoi after attending the conference honoring role models nationwide in Hanoi, non-commissioned Captain Dang Thi Tuyet Mai from the infirmary of the Long An provincial Military Command joined the delegation to offer medical examinations and medicines for people in Cambodia.

At 3 a.m., the delegation made thorough preparations and left Tan An city (Long An province) to Chres commune, Chantrea district, Svay Rieng province. After nearly 4 hours, the delegation arrived at Khlos pagoda, Chres commune where the health check-up program took place.

During the program, non-commissioned Captain Dang Thi Tuyet Mai took blood pressure measurements for local people and then informed the results to them via interpreters. She shared that the medical staff and she have joined the health check-up program for Cambodian people many times, adding that she always tries her best to accomplish the assignment.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Ho Ngoc Chau, a doctor of the infirmary of the Long An provincial Military Command, although there were a large number of local people, doctors and nurses provided wholehearted care for them. After giving health check-ups and medicines to the locals, the medical staff with the support of interpreters carefully instructed people how to take medicines.

With dedication and enthusiasm, medical staff braced the scorching sun to provide medical examinations for local people. Ms. Kong Chit from Chres commune emotionally expressed that due to the difficult conditions, her family cannot afford to take medical examination at the hospital. Receiving information about the health check-up program of the Vietnamese troops, she registered for examination. “Local people and I thank Vietnamese officers very much,” she said.

Gifts and medicines of gratitude

Afterwards, Vietnamese doctors and nurses moved to Cham commune, Kampong Trabaek district, Prey Veng province.

Ms. Sun Ny from Cham commune was suffering degenerative spondylolisthesis. Learning the information about the health check-up program of Vietnamese medical staff, her elder brother and son took her to the medical area for examination.

Along with giving Ms. Sun Ny a medical examination, health counseling and medical prescriptions, the doctors supplemented different kinds of tonics to improve her resistance and health.

In order to effectively conduct the health check-up program in Cambodia, the Long An provincial Military Command drew up a concrete plan and closely coordinated with military sub-regions of Svay Rieng and Prey Veng provinces. Additionally, the medical staff fully prepared medicines and 800 gifts, including cooking oil, sugar, salt, and other necessities, for local people.

According to Senior Colonel Nguyen Minh Tan, Deputy Political Commissar of the Long An provincial Military Command, over the past years, the command has signed cooperation agreements with military sub-regions of Svay Rieng and Prey Veng provinces.

Under the deal, Cambodia’s two provinces have regularly supported Long An province’s military command in the search and collection martyrs’ remains, information exchange, and the maintenance of stability in border areas.

The command’s health check-up program for Cambodian people demonstrated the care of Vietnamese soldiers toward local people, contributing to consolidating the solidarity between people in the two countries in general and among three provinces in particular.

For his part, Lieutenant General Moeun Samon, Commanding Officer of the Military sub-region of Prey Veng, underlined that the health check-up program for Cambodian people proved the special solidarity and friendship between Prey Veng and Long An provinces. He treasured the deep sentiments of Vietnamese soldiers.
