On September 29, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang, Deputy Minister of National Defense, presided over a ceremony at Noi Bai International Airport to welcome members of the unit home.
Speaking at the ceremony, Sr. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Truong Thang, on behalf of the Central Military Commission (CMC) and Ministry of National Defense (MND), congratulated and commended the unit’s 184 officers and personnel for successfully completing their mission, highlighting their responsibility, professionalism and humanitarian spirit. Despite harsh weather and difficult living and working conditions in Abyei, the team remained united, pro-active and creative, successfully fulfilling tasks assigned by the MND and UNISFA.

During its deployment, the Engineering Company Rotation 4 constructed, repaired and upgraded roads, infrastructure and technical facilities as required by the mission. Despite challenging terrain, weather and facilities, the team ensured quality, progress and safety. Its projects supported UNISFA operations while contributing to local infrastructure, humanitarian activities and the daily lives of local residents.
The team also carried out effective community engagement, repairing bridges, hospitals and schools, building desks and chairs, and providing material support to improve living and learning conditions for local people, particularly children. These practical activities were highly appreciated by local authorities and communities, which sent letters of commendation, contributing to international confidence in Viet Nam’s blue berets.

Building on the experience of previous engineering teams, the Engineering Company Rotation 4 achieved strong results in UNISFA’s comprehensive capability assessment. The team received a high evaluation, was selected by UNISFA leadership as an outstanding all-around unit and recommended to the U.N. Secretary-General for commendation. All 184 officers and personnel were awarded the “For U.N. Peacekeeping Cause” medal.
The unit also strictly managed and maintained its vehicles and equipment and enhanced its personnel’s professional and situational response capabilities. When the security situation became complicated, it strictly complied with U.N., mission and military regulations, ensuring the safety of personnel and equipment.

Sr. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Truong Thang asked relevant agencies and units to conduct health examinations, settle benefits and policies, review the deployment, and carry out emulation and commendation procedures for the unit. He also requested the Viet Nam Department of Peacekeeping Operations to prepare the next rotation of forces and ensure the safety of the Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 8 and Engineering Company Rotation 5 in the area.
