At the meeting, Gen. San confirmed that the bilateral defense ties have been effectively carried out across spheres, such as exchange of delegations, especially high-level ones, personnel training, and border management and protection.

He stressed that the two sides’ functional agencies have regularly exchanged information, organized joint patrols, and effectively fought against cross-border crimes, particularly drug trafficking and illegal immigration.
The Vietnamese deputy defense minister suggested the two sides, on the basis of the cooperation plan for 2023, should further their close coordination to effectively and comprehensively implement cooperation contents with a focus on the First Vietnam - Laos - Cambodia Border Defense Friendship Exchange at the deputy defense ministerial level and the annual meeting of Vietnamese, Lao and Cambodian defense ministers.
Also at the reception, Gen. San congratulated Gen. Vongkham Phommakone on his appointment as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Star Telecom with Unitel as its brand, a joint venture between Vietnam’s Military Industry-Telecoms Group (Viettel) and Lao Asia Telecom. The host expressed his belief that under the leadership of Gen. Vongkham Phommakone, the company will further develop, deserving to be a symbol of the effective cooperation between the two countries and militaries.
For his part, Gen. Phommakone thanked the host for the reception. He conveyed the regards of General Chansamone Chanyalath, Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister to Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang.
The Lao general expressed thanks to the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense for coordinating and supporting the Lao counterpart to upgrade the Laos - Vietnam Combat Alliance Monument in Xiengkhouang province.
He suggested the two sides focus on implementing contents of the defense cooperation plan 2023 between the two countries.
