Vietnam and Laos have a long borderline and people living in both sides of the borderline have good relationship. Over the past time, apart from coordinating with the Lao border protection force in task performance, the Vietnamese border guard force has carried out numerous activities to improve living standards of Lao people to help them stabilize their life.

Since the launch of the program “Supporting students to go to school - Border posts sponsor children,” the Vietnamese Border Guard Command has directed its affiliates to expand the program to Laos and sponsor children of Lao ethnic people living along the shared borderline. After many exchanges with Laos’ authorities and authorized forces, the two sides have reached an agreement and the two countries’ border protection units have selected Lao disadvantaged children to receive the support.

Up to now, border units stationed along the Vietnam-Laos borderline, including those in Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Dien Bien and Quang Binh provinces, have sponsored 81 Lao students with adversity in life and good academic results and effectively implemented the program.

In particular, five Lao students sponsored by troops of Thong Thu Border Post under the Nghe An provincial Border Guard Command have achieved good studying results.

According to Laubatho, Deputy Chief of the Office of Noonghet district, Xiengkhouang province, Laos, the program holds humane meaning. Many Lao students in border villages have benefited from the program and made progress in their study.

The Lao official stressed that the implementation of this program has helped beautify the special solidarity and friendship between the two militaries and peoples.
