The event was chaired by Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Deputy Defense Minister, Head of the Inter-sectoral Working Group and Head of the MND's Steering Committee on Vietnam’s Participation in U.N. Peacekeeping Operations.

According the decision, Lieutenant Colonel Dang Quoc Tuan from the Political Officer Training School is going to be deployed to UNISFA as an operation staff officer.

According a report presented by Director of the Vietnam Department for Peacekeeping Operations Senior Colonel Pham Manh Thang, Vietnam has sent 600 servicemen, including 596 military troops and four police troops to take part in the U.N. peacekeeping operations in three peacekeeping missions, the headquarters of the U.N., and the European Union’s training mission. 

Missions and agencies of the U.N. have evaluated that Vietnamese officers have tried utmost to complete their duties, demonstrating their professionalism and high discipline. Their performance has left good impression on missions’ leaders, commanding officers of military forces, and international colleagues.

On behalf of the Central Military Commission and the MND, Gen. Chien asked the officer to grasp and strictly observe Vietnam’s guidelines and policies on foreign relations; uphold tradition of the Vietnamese peacekeeping force and virtues of Uncle Ho’s soldiers to complete all assigned duties; support comrades and relevant units in the mission; strengthen the relationship with local people and authorities, thus spreading the beautiful image of Vietnam, its people, and military to international friends. 

Col. Tuan said that the deployment is an honor of himself, his family, and unit, but also a huge responsibility, requiring him to keep studying and trying to complete missions assigned by the Party, State, and MND.

Affirming his readiness to undertake the mission, he promised to strictly observe military discipline, the U.N.’s regulations, and the host country’s law; respect culture, region, and life of local people; stay united and help and cooperate with colleagues to complete missions; pro-actively and actively participate in humanitarian activities to popularize the beautiful image of Uncle Ho’s soldiers and friendly and peace-loving Vietnam to international friends.
