PANO - 15 red-lacquered and gold-trimmed wooden devotional objects dating from the 17th to the 19th century have been successfully restored under the auspices of US Government.
In a press release on November 19th, the US Embassy Hanoi revealed that a ceremony to announce the successful completion of this project was held at Thai Binh Museum the same day.
Collected by Thai Binh Museum from many places in the Red River Delta (mainly in communal houses, pagodas, temples and shrines), these objects have significant historical, cultural, and religious value. They reflect the cultural and spiritual life of the Vietnamese people in the key Red River Delta provinces. This project, funded with a US $30,000 grant by the US Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation, was awarded in December 2011 by Ambassador David Shear.
Experts at the Preservation Department of the Vietnam National Museum of History also joined hands in the restoration work.
Established in 2001, the Fund has supported 650 projects worldwide, totaling more than $29 million. Vietnam has been awarded ten projects since 2001, each contributing to a different aspect of Vietnam’s diverse heritage.
