Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas spoke highly of traditional friendship between Palestine and Vietnam while receiving Pham Sy Tam, Vietnamese ambassador to Egypt and Palestine, on February 6.
President Abbas expressed his admiration for the Vietnamese people’s past struggle for national liberation against foreign invaders, as well as their important achievements in the current Renewal process.
He recalled his two previous visits to Vietnam and hoped to return to Vietnam during his upcoming Asian tour.
Mr Abbas briefed his guest on major developments in the Middle East peace process and said countries in the Arab world will meet soon to seek solutions to this process.
He expressed his hope that with international support and through diplomatic channels, an independent and sovereign State of Palestine would be established very soon.
Ambassador Tam, who presented his credentials to the Palestinian President, conveyed Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet to Mr Abbas and thanked the Palestinian Authority and people for providing support to Vietnam.
He affirmed that the Party, State and people of Vietnam show their good feelings and are interested in the Palestinian people’s just struggle for an independent state.
