PANO - Four students from Singapore’s Yale – NUS University, including Marcus Koe (22) and Daniel Soo (22) from Singapore, Kei Franklin (21) from the US and  Anshuman Mohan (19) from India, have finished their 3,700km trip through four Southeast Asia countries, including Vietnam.

Earlier, having won a SGD 8,000 prize of the university’s Tourism Union for their plan to discover Southeast Asia countries by bicycle, they decided to realize the plan. After packing their backpacks, on May 15th they started their trip to Malaysia, then Thailand, Laos and Vietnam.

The four cyclists said that cycling gave them a chance to enjoy landscapes, easily communicate with local people, and see differences among the countries, adding that beautiful mountainous landscapes in Vietnam attracted them much.

They said that they were impressed by the friendship and hospitality of Vietnamese people. The four still remembered the time that they were offered water and rice pancakes by local people in Do Luong district, Nghe An province, Vietnam.

The four students also spent a week visiting such famous places in Hanoi as Hoan Kiem Lake, West Lake, Hanoi Old Quarter, and the Temple of Literature.

Daniel Soo said it came as a surprise to him when seeing bicycles used everywhere in Vietnam for different purposes, such as traveling, transporting goods and going to work.

The students said that the trip to Southeast Asia countries gave them valuable experiences for their next trips to other places in the world.
