Vietnam and Jordan established diplomatic relations on August 9, 1980. Since then, the two countries have consistently maintained and nurtured a friendly relationship. In terms of political and diplomatic ties, although there have been no exchanges of visits at the head-of-state level and no formal cooperation mechanisms, such as joint committees or political consultations, there have been several notable mutual visits in the past. Vietnamese delegations to Jordan included Special Envoy of the Chairman of the Council of Ministers Vo Dong Giang in 1982, Deputy Prime Minister Phan Van Khai in 1997, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in 2000, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Quang Hieu in 2022. On the Jordanian side, Queen Noor Al-Hussein visited Vietnam in 1999.

In economic and trade relations, bilateral trade reached USD 188.138 million in 2024, with Vietnam accounting for over 95% of the exports (USD 180.526 million), primarily consisting of agricultural and seafood products, electronics and components, textiles, chemical products, wood products, plastic products, equipment, tools, and spare parts. As of the end of September 2025, Jordan has five active investment projects in Vietnam with a total registered capital of USD 1 million, ranking 109th among 153 countries and territories investing in Vietnam. To date, Vietnam and Jordan have signed only two agreements on aviation and economic-trade cooperation, both dating back to the 1990s.
This indicates that despite the potential for cooperation, it has not yet been fully realized. Therefore, this visit by the King of Jordan holds significant meaning and importance for both countries, as well as for unlocking bilateral cooperation potential.
Vietnamese leaders and people welcome the official visit of the Jordanian King primarily to continue implementing the foreign policy direction of the 13th National Party Congress and Resolution No.34-NQ/TW dated January 9, 2023, of the Politburo. It demonstrates Jordan’s respect for the friendship and cooperation between the two countries and acknowledges Vietnam’s role and position in the region. At the same time, it reaffirms Vietnam’s consistent policy of valuing its friendship and cooperation with Arab countries in general and Jordan in particular; it is ready to deepen political trust, support the independent and autonomous foreign policies of both nations, and lay a foundation for substantive development of bilateral economic relations. Additionally, the visit provides an opportunity to promote bilateral relations across all fields, contributing to the implementation of Jordan’s economic modernization vision.
The people of Hanoi and the entire country welcome the King of Jordan with the hope that the important exchanges between His Majesty and Vietnam’s Party and State leadership will help advance bilateral relations to a deeper and more effective level, especially in areas such as agriculture, food security, investment attraction, tourism, science and technology, Halal industries, and mutual support in multilateral forums.
This visit is expected to become a historic milestone in the relationship between the two countries and open a new phase of cooperation, laying the groundwork for advancing collaboration in areas that the two countries have potential and interest.
