The agreement was made in a Memorandum of Understanding signed in Hanoi on October 29 between the Center for Hydro-Meteorological Technology Applications (HYMETEC) under the Vietnam Meteorological and Hydrological Administration and the MetraWeather, the international commercial brand of the Meteorological Service of New Zealand.

Accordingly, MetraWeather will provide the HYMETEC with the latest technologies and coordinate with the center to create digital weather forecast video clips, which will be then distributed to local television stations in Vietnam.

Besides, they will cooperate to make hydrometeorological products serving key economic sectors like agriculture, navigation, and aviation.

At the signing ceremony, New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam Wendy Matthews said the cooperation will bring practical application of the high technologies which have been well developed in New Zealand to Vietnam.

High-tech products and services are making contributions to deepening the sound Vietnam-New Zealand relations, he said.

The diplomat added that export of technologies is the third largest earner for the country, which brought home NZD 1.1 billion (USD 698.4 million) in 2018, up 11 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, deputy head of the Vietnam Meteorological and Hydrological Administration Hoang Duc Cuong spoke highly of the collaboration, saying it will help the country mitigate natural disaster risks, ensure sustainable development, and consolidate national security-defense.
