At the meeting, the two sides shared views on the international situation and the role of multilateral forums in dealing with global issues and challenges.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son affirmed that Vietnam will continue to be an active and responsible member and fulfill its international commitments to make more substantive and effective contribution to the common affairs of UNESCO.

The diplomat said that in that spirit, Vietnam will run for a member of the World Heritage Committee for the term 2023-2027 to join other countries’ efforts in completing policies as well as promoting measures to protect world cultural and natural heritages. He wished to receive support from UNESCO.

For her part, the UNESCO Director General highly appreciated Vietnam's practical and effective contribution to the organization’s operations as well as its proactive, active and responsible role as a member of the UNESCO Executive Board for the 2021-2025 term.

Ms. Audrey Azoulay also congratulated Vietnam on being elected with the highest number of approval votes to the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage for the 2022-2026 tenure. She recommended Vietnam to continue keeping a balance between conservation and development and pledged to encourage the sharing of scientific achievements between developed and developing member countries and to further support Vietnam in education, culture, science and information-communications.

The same day, UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay attended the new school year opening ceremony at Hanoi-based Ngo Si Lien Secondary School, which was selected for the "education for sustainable development" project included in the UNESCO Associated Schools Network.
