Addressing the event, Turkish Ambassador to Vietnam Akif Ayhan said that Turkey and Vietnam have enjoyed sound friendship and cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral levels on the basis of mutual respect and understanding since the establishment of the two countries’ diplomatic relations in 1978.

Accordingly, Vietnam has assisted Turkey in strengthening ties with ASEAN as a sectoral dialogue partner and Turkey has supported Vietnam in becoming a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

Ambassador Akif Ayhan also expressed his hope that bilateral friendship and cooperation would be further expanded in the time to come.

For his part, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Quoc Dung congratulated Turkey on their great achievements in economic development and reform as well as its national construction cause, making the country one of the 20 largest economies in the world.

Turkey is currently one of Vietnam's leading trading partners in the Middle East with the two-way trade turnover in 2018 reaching nearly USD 1.7 billion.

“The Vietnamese Government and people always want to foster and expand multifaceted cooperation with Turkey, especially in potential fields such as trade, investment, culture, education and training, and tourism… for mutual interests,” said Deputy Minister Dung.

He also stressed that friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Turkey will continue to be enhanced and promoted, contributing to the development of each country.
