Haitian Senate leader begins official visit to Vietnam
President of the Senate of the Republic of Haiti Youri Latortue and his spouse arrived in Hanoi on June 17, beginning a six-day official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

He is accompanied by First Secretary of the Senate Dieudonne Luma Étienne, Chairman of the Senate’s Culture and Tourism Committee Jacques Sauverur Jean, and Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on Communication Nawoon Marcellus.
Vietnam and Haiti set up diplomatic ties in 1997.
The Haitian Government opened its embassy in Hanoi in December 2013.
This is the first time the Senate of the Republic of Haiti has sent a high-ranking delegation to Vietnam to boost its friendship and cooperation with the Vietnamese legislature.
