The Vietnam Railway Corporation will finish the in-depth study on the North-South Express Railway Project and submit it to the Government in 2011, Deputy General Director of the corporation assured on January 19th.
According to him, the corporation, in December 2010, was entrusted by the Vietnamese Government and the Ministry of Transport to receive technical supports from the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to draw up investment reports on the construction of 2 express railway sections Hanoi-Vinh and Nha Trang-Ho Chi Minh City.
“The Vietnam Railway Corporation, the investment manager, have worked with JICA and reached first agreements on the project. The Japanese side has agreed to provide some financial and technical assistance. The corporation will complete the detailed scheme and hand it to the Government in 2011 and the Government will then submit it, in turn, to the National Assembly (NA) for approval,” the official said.
Earlier in 2010, the project to build an express railway line the length of the country became a heated issue that drew controversial ideas in both NA session and society. Finally, it was not passed by NA.
After that, the Vietnamese Government asked Japan for technical supports and instructed Vietnamese involved bodies to further study the project and then report to the Government in 2011.
