Over the past three decades, PV GAS has always maintained its leading position in Vietnam’s gas industry as the flagship of Vietnam Oil & Gas Group (PetroVietnam). The official operation of the 1 MMTPA Thi Vai LNG Terminal is the achievement of PV GAS's outstanding efforts in the green energy journey towards sustainable development.

In his opening remarks, PV GAS General Director Pham Van Phong informed that the debut of the 1 MMTPA Thi Vai LNG Terminal was to realize the Politburo’s Resolution 55 issued on February 11, 2020 on orienting Vietnam's national energy development strategy by 2030, with a vision to 2045 to ensure national energy security.

With this first LNG import infrastructure, PV GAS will be active in the gas supply to meet energy needs of current power plants and households, contributing to ensuring national energy security and reducing environmental pollution in line with the government's commitments at COP26 and the global trend towards green energy.

PV GAS is determined to realize LNG centers in Son My and Northern and North-central region to complete the core infrastructure for national gas industry and for stronger PV GAS, contributing to the national industrialization and modernization.

Addressing the event, Deputy PM Tran Luu Quang highlighted the importance of this terminal in materializing the orientations of the Party and Government in national energy development strategy towards green, clean and sustainable growth. The government leader said that PV GAS has paved the way for the presence of LNG in Vietnam, officially putting the country on the global LNG map and marking a crucial step in the energy transition process.

He urged PetroVietnam and PV GAS to speed up the construction of Nhon Trach 3 and 4 power plants and consider increasing the capacity of the terminal to three million tons of LNG per year while accelerating other LNG-fired power projects.
