PANO - Veteran Nguyen Ngoc Sang, a native from Tan Vinh Village, Quang Tri Province, has got rich from planting 1,500 bamboo trees and breeding fish.
As a former soldier from Division 341A, Regiment 270, veteran Sang started doing farming from scratch in his village.
He asked the locality to allow him to exploit the uncultivated area in Tan Vinh Hill, where unexploded bombs and mines as well as weeds can be found.
The veteran, on both sunny and rainy days, had kept clearing the field from bombs and landmines.
His efforts paid off. The bamboo shoots earned his family around VND 100 million a year.
He has also raised fish and planted more than 5,000 “keo lai” trees.
In addition to enriching himself, he has also helped other local people improve their lives.
