In fact, the Viettel Network Corporation (VTNet) plays an important role in all of Viettel’s success. Currently, VTNet is the pioneer in building a foundation for a digital society in Vietnam.
Most modern technologies, swift implementation
In just six months, Viettel completed the installation of its widespread 4G base-transceiver stations (BTS) thanks to valuable contributions from VTNet. In April 2017, Viettel started offering 4G services, marking the second boom in the mobile-phone market. In that six months, VTNet completed the deployment of a seamless 4G network nationwide with 32,240 4G BTSs, the same as the number of 3G BTSs that Viettel spent eight years to build and higher than the number of 2G BTSs that the group spent 10 years to build.
So far, Viettel is still providing the best 4G services among providers in Vietnam, on par with other world-leading providers. After the success of 4G, Viettel is piloting its 5G services and VTNet is making contributions to strengthening the role of Viettel as a leading 5G, NB-IoT, eSIM, cloud computing service provider. Viettel is now one of the first network providers to implement 5G services in the world, helping expand business and enhance the value of the group’s brand name.
Especially, VTNet has always shown its aspiration to master technologies. This is one of the advantages of VTNet in particular and affiliate units of Viettel in general, as the mastery of the systems decides the success of Viettel.
NB-IoT is also one of the world’s most modern telecommunications technologies. In Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang, Viettel has deployed more than 2,000 NB-IoT stations built and produced 100% by the research efforts of VTNet engineers. The intellect, efforts, and perseverance of VTNet engineers play a key role in bringing about that result. According to Engineer Nguyen Minh Thi, Technology Center Region 3, VTNet - one of the NB-IoT researchers, the engineers had to work hard for months to calculate and adjust thousands of parameters. Despite many failures, they were not discouraged.
Thanks to the efforts of VTNet, Viettel’s optical cable network has now covered 94% of all communes nationwide and 100% of all mainland communes. The group has actively strengthened its network, focusing on coastal provinces and mountainous areas, especially serving missions during natural disasters. After five years, the average quality of the network has improved by 30%, with 40% of the criteria being better met than other service carriers, far exceeding the set target of 20-30%. Recently, VTNet is shifting from providing support to directly operating in 10 Viettel foreign markets with 30,000 broadcast stations.
VTNet is also always proactive in preparing and ensuring smooth communication for exercises conducted by the Ministry of National Defense and serving other important events. The connection is always maintained to ensure system security in border areas and at sea, contributing to safeguarding national sovereignty and security.
Especially, VTNet earned those results in the context that the corporation had to reduce 24% of its work force. However, thanks to reasonable organizational measures, application of new technologies, and optimization of the network, VTNet has increased its productivity. In more detail, the corporation’s productivity increased by 10% compared to the 2010-2015 period, from VND 13.7 billion per person per year in 2015 to more than VND 15.1 billion per person per year in 2019. The per capita income of the corporation’s employees increased from VND 31.14 million in 2015 to VND 37.66 million per month in 2019, an increase of 21% compared to the 2010-2015 period.
Human factor – the source for great aspiration
In the coming years, in the context of the rapid-growing Fourth Industrial Revolution and digital transformation, and as the Government is stepping up the transition to a digital economy, VTNet will be assigned with heavy tasks.
VTNet aims to build the largest and most modern digital infrastructure in Vietnam, featuring extensive coverage, outstanding quality, a smart and efficient network, and key technologies such as 4G, 5G, IoT, NG-PON, and cloud computing. Viettel’s mobile network will cover 95% of the population with service quality improved by at least 30% and 10-20% better than those of other carriers. Landline broadband network and television services are set to take the top place, covering more than 80% of households. VTNet has planned to become the biggest cloud data center and number one ICT service provider in Vietnam and one of the world leading corporations in the field. At the same time, the corporation is determined to fulfill all assigned military-defense missions.
To get these done, the Party Committee of VTNet is focused on building the corporation into a politically strong unit while upholding stability and solidarity for sustainable development. More detailed targets have been set, including the staff’s high professional competence, good foreign language command, capabilities to set up strategies and implement those strategies, and more. Major General Le Dang Dung, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Acting Chairman and CEO of Viettel, emphasized, “VTNet is one of the units responsible for building a modern telecommunications and IT platform in Vietnam, serving the forming of a digital economy. In order to accomplish its mission, VTNet must be streamlined, modernized, expand globally, and be able to attract intellectual and professional personnel with strong aspiration.”
The fourth Party Congress of VTNet for the 2020-2025 term is an important milestone in the development of the corporation. Successfully implementing strategies, reaching goals, devising solutions, and finding new ways are what have been set out in the Congress Resolution, serving as a premise for VTNet to embark on in the next stage of sustainable development into a global pioneer in Vietnam.
