According to Colonel Nguyen Vu Ha, General Director of Viettel High Technology Industries Corporation (VHT), this created a significant step toward deepening Viettel’s penetration into the international market.

Viettel’s products compared to world ones

MSPO is a world exhibition on defense industry. It is a place for enterprises to show their most advanced technology. Answering the question about the position of Viettel, particularly VHT, on the world military technology map, Col. Ha said that Viettel has started studying military technology for nearly 13 years. Right from the early days, under the direction of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, Viettel began researching the latest technologies.

Over the past years, Viettel has got access to the latest technologies in the world in fields of radar, optoelectronics, simulation models, information machines, and others, and practice has proven its efficiency. VHT’s participation in MSPO 2023 in Poland demonstrated that VHT's technology was highly appreciated, comparable to products from enterprises in military technology all over the world.

Regarding the difference between VHT’s military technology and the others at MSPO 2023, Col. Ha shared that VHT’s technology holds distinctive features. First, as a military enterprise, VHT’s special client is Ministry of National Defense. This is a client with high requirements for Viettel products. Second, unlike regional enterprises, Viettel owns core technology and breakthrough thinking. Viettel has actively studied to enhance its creativity, going hand in hand with the world, pro-actively updating information in the world to creatively apply to its products as quickly as possible.

Need for products to be more competitive

About the basis motivating VHT to promote the most advanced military technology while the technology level of Vietnam's civil industry is still far from developed countries’ ones, Colonel Nguyen Vu Ha stressed that for the technology sector, if you do not update, you are a loser as no one is waiting for you. VHT, as well as enterprises from countries whose manufacturing sectors have developed later, have to fiercely compete with the former. Thereby, VHT must update with the latest technology to survive and develop in the long term. If we don't meet the world's needs, it means we cannot exist, he underlined.

Amid the complicated conflicts in the world, it can be seen that the demand for high-tech products is getting higher. Hence, VHT has actively studied and acquired experience to make more contribution to the military in the new situation, as well as set a target to export its products to foreign markets.

From the society’s view, it can be said that Viettel has a ready market to serve the Vietnamese military. Sharing the reasons why Viettel wants to bring products to foreign markets, Col. Ha stated that the view of Viettel's leadership is to fairly compete with products in the world, thus affirming its value. Viettel’s research process revealed that product research must meet 40% of requirements; purchasing products in the domestic market reaches 70% of the requirements; buying products in the world market gains 100% of the requirements. During the research process, if the enterprise does not set a target to export products to foreign markets, it will not be able to perfect the best product.

Disrupted supply chains create new opportunities

Talking about the influences posed by geopolitical tensions in the world on VHT's research and production, Col. Ha said that geopolitical tensions in the world have caused the disruption of supply chains, the increase in material price, barriers in some types of materials and components that cannot be exported to Vietnam. Therefore, the unit should enhance its self-control. However, VHT has found opportunities in difficult times. The disruption of supply chains has also caused difficulties for other units that purchase supplies and weapons. This has created opportunities for VUT to take part in world leading exhibitions to get access to those who are in need.

Mentioning VHT’s long-term development targets, Col. Ha shared that by 2030, VHT has set a goal to be listed in the top 80 enterprises in defense industry in the world. At that time, VHT will provide 50% products for domestic market and 50% for international one.

He added that in the time to come, Viettel will continue to attend major defense exhibitions in the world. It will be Viettel’s annual activity. Particularly, Viettel will participate in the Asian Defense and Security Exhibition which is scheduled to take place in Thailand in November 2023.

MSPO is one of Europe’s three largest annual international defense exhibitions and ranks 9th among the top 10 largest defense exhibitions in the world. The 31st MSPO 2023 attracts more than 700 companies, more than 60 delegations from 36 countries worldwide. Viettel’s participation in MSPO 2023 marked the first time a Vietnamese enterprise attended and showcased its products at MSPO. During the exhibition, Viettel displayed 60 products, showing its capability in studying and manufacturing in the fields of communication, electronic warfare, radar, optoelectronics, simulation models, UAVs, private network for the military, to name but a few.
