Vietnamese, Lao localities boost economic ties
A delegation from Laos' Champasak province led by Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Governor Alounxay Sounnalath on January 14 visited and held discussions with leaders of the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho.
During the meeting, Alounxay extended Lunar New Year wishes to the hosts and proposed measures to advance collaboration in agriculture, forestry, and other fields where Can Tho excels.

He also shared a plan for establishing an agricultural center in Champasak province, expressing a strong desire to learn from Can Tho's expertise to achieve rapid agricultural development in the region.
In response, Secretary of the Can Tho Party Committee Nguyen Van Hieu shared the city’s achievements in 2024, particularly in socio-economic development, and noted the vibrant activities planned to celebrate the traditional Lunar New Year.
To ensure effective implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two localities, Hieu urged both sides to strengthen direct exchanges and provide recommendations to their respective leaders for further collaboration.
As part of the visit, Alounxay Sounnalath, authorised by the Lao Prime Minister, awarded the second-class Labour Order from the Lao President to Can Tho in recognition of the city’s significant contributions to Champasak development in recent years.
