Vietnamese sport delegation heads for SEA Games 29
PANO - The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the General Department of Sports and Physical Training, the Vietnam Olympic Committee held a ceremony to see off the Vietnamese sport delegation to the 29th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 29) on August 8 in Hanoi.

Present at the event were Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thien, Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Chairman of the Vietnam Olympic Committee, Mr. Tran Duc Phan, Deputy Director of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training and Head of Vietnamese Sports Delegation to SEA Games 29.
Speaking at the ceremony, Tran Duc Phan reviewed the preparations for SEA Games 29 in Malaysia. Accordingly, the Vietnamese delegation is ready and determined to bring glory to the nation.
SEA Games 29 is the basis to review the athletes’ preparation for the upcoming Asiad 2018 in Indonesia and for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in Japan. This is also an opportunity to evaluate the development of Vietnam’s sports in comparison with other countries in Southeast Asia, affirmed the head of the Vietnamese delegation.
Addressing at the event, Minister Nguyen Ngoc Thien highly valued the efforts of the coaches and athletes in preparing for SEA Games 29; and wished the athletes to fully exploit their abilities and strengths to gain the best achievements.
He also stressed that the Vietnamese delegation should be fully aware of the responsibility and honor entrusted by the Party and State to complete assigned tasks at the Games. Each member of the delegation should do well to be a goodwill ambassador to Southeast Asia people.
The 29th SEA Games will take place from August 19 to 31 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Vietnam sends 471 athletes to compete at the games and targets to bag 49 to 59 gold medals, , and strive for highest records in sport events that Vietnam would participate in the Asiad 2018 and the Olympic Games 2020.
