It was unveiled by Deputy Head of the Vietnam Sports Administration (VSA) Tran Duc Phan during a press conference in Hanoi on June 19 to review the VSA’s performance in the first half and major tasks for the remaining months this year.

Phan said it is hard for the Vietnamese team to achieve the goal of being in the top 3 at the biggest regional sport event due to strong competitors from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and the Philippines.

In the first half of this year, Vietnam won 335 medals at international tournaments, including 136 golds, 104 silvers, 95 bronzes. The Vietnamese women football team won a ticket to enter the final round of the Asian Cup 2018 in Jordan while the women volleyball team pocketed a bronze medal for the first time at the Asia U23 tournament.

In the near future, the sports sector will refine and submit the draft Law on amendments and supplements to several articles of the Law on Physical Training and Sports to relevant authorities, as well as continue popularizing the campaign “The entire people do physical exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho.”

Apart from making thorough preparations for SEA Games 29 and the ninth ASEAN Para Games in Malaysia, the Vietnamese sports team will also compete in the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Turkmenistan, the third Junior Championship in Indonesia, the 10th World Games in Poland, the Asia-Pacific Junior Championship in Russia, and regional, continental and world tournaments.
