Cyclist Nguyen Minh Thien wins yellow and blue jerseys
PANO - Cyclist Nguyen Minh Thien successfully took the yellow jersey from cyclist Pham Le Xuan Loc when finished the third stage of the ongoing cycling tournament “Return to Dien Bien Phu - 2024, the People’s Army Newspaper Cup” in 3 hours 6 minutes on May 3.
In the third stage themed “Opening ways to the Northwestern region,” cyclists departed from Son La province’s Van Ho district, crossing Chieng Dong Pass, to Son La city, covering a total distance of 141 km.
Right in the first minutes, cyclist Nguyen Minh Thien from Vinh Long team led the cyclists. Reaching Moc Chau townlet of Moc Chau district, Son La province, some 60km from Van Ho district, cyclists Thien and Pham Tien Viet from Hanoi team distinguished themselves from other athletes for 45 seconds.

According to the jury of the tourney, the average speed of cyclists in the third stage was maintained at nearly 50 km per hour.
In this stage, cyclist Nguyen Minh Thien made a surprise. He ranked first in Sprints 1 and 2, topped the Chieng Dong Pass section, and was the first to reach the finish line. He successfully won the yellow and blue jerseys from cyclist Pham Le Xuan Loc (Army team) who finished first in the second stage.
Also on March 5, sponsors of the cycling tournament conducted meaningful activities in Son La province. Particularly, ten sanitation facilities were presented to local schools; 20 gifts, worth VND 5 million each, were given to local schools, war veterans and policy beneficiary families.
The fourth stage, named “Advance to Muong Thanh,” will continue on May 4. Cyclists will pedal 155 km from Son La city to Dien Bien province’s Dien Bien Phu city.
