Senior Lieutenant General Trinh Van Quyet, Deputy Chief of the General Department of Political Affairs (GDP) of the Vietnam People’s Army, attended the event.
At the opening ceremony, the PAN’s Deputy Editor-in-chief Senior Colonel Le Ngoc Long, Vice head of the organizing panel of the tournament, read the letter Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent to the cycling tournament.
Addressing the ceremony, General Quyet affirmed that GDP leaders acknowledged and hailed the PAN’s remarkable efforts and responsibility towards the community over the past years. In addition to practical activities, since 2004, the PAN, together with the Vietnam Motor-Bicycle Sports Federation and relevant organizations and localities, have successfully organized the cycling tournament four times, leaving good impression and promoting its reputation.

In order to organize this year’s cycling tournament, the PAN has closely worked with relevant units and organizations to make thorough preparations in all fields.

General Quyet also requested the organizing panel to strictly follow regulations of the tournament, try their best to organize the event with absolute safety. Each athlete and coach should promote solidarity and determination during the competition.
At the opening ceremony, the organizing panel presented gifts to policy households and national contributors in Hanoi. In the framework of the program, the total amount of money spent on social welfare activities reached nearly VND 10 billion.

On behalf of the organizing panel, the PAN’s Editor-in-chief Major General Doan Xuan Bo, kicked off the cycling tournament “Return to Dien Bien Phu - 2024, the PAN Cup.” Accordingly, 70 athletes from 10 delegations started their first stage with a route of 24 laps around Hoan Kiem Lake (40.8km).
Taking place from May 1 to 5, athletes will compete in a total route of more than 500km from Hanoi city to Dien Bien Phu city, Dien Bien province.
