PANO - A ceremony to start the casting of a bronze statue of General Tran Hung Dao was held in Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province, on September 4th in the presence of General Tran Dai Quang, Minister of Public Security, the province’s leaders and monks.

General Tran Hung Dao, whose real name is Tran Quoc Tuan, an eminent politician, military man and ideologist of the Tran Dynasty, led Vietnamese troops to repel three major invasions of the Mongols.

The statue, 9.9m in height and 10 tonnes in weight, will be made of bronze by Thang Long Trading and Art Co. Ltd. Once completed, the statue will be placed in Bach Dang Park, replacing the current cement statue.

During the resistance wars against French and American invaders, Khanh Hoa people built Tran Hung Dao Temple on Nguyen Trai Street in commemoration of the nation’s hero.
