The press conference introducing the festival

This information was announced on February 22 at the press conference to launch the festival.

The festival aims to restore and develop traditional sports of the country as well as promote Hanoi's tourism and create momentum for the development of water sports.

Over the past year, Vietnam Airlines and the city jointly organized many cultural events such as “Vietnam Airlines Classic - Hanoi Concert 2017” program, Vietnam International Travel Mart – VITM, and a cultural space themed “Vietnam Airlines-Spring Take-off”.

This year's dragon boat racing festival is a big event following the cooperation activities between the two sides to celebrate the 88th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and welcome the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday. The two sides will also set a target to develop the festival into a regular activity, contributing to promoting the city's image to international friends.

The event is expected to draw 400 athletes from 27 teams of Hanoi’s districts to compete in two categories: standard and traditional dragon boat racing.

Before the competition, athletes of the boat racing and some other water sports will join a bike parade around West Lake.
