Speaking at the event, President of Ho Chi Minh City’s Viet Nam - Indonesia Friendship Association Nguyen Minh Nhut said that bilateral relations have developed strongly since Viet Nam and Indonesia established diplomatic ties in 1955. A major milestone was the elevation of the relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership on March 10, 2025.

Indonesia is Viet Nam’s second-largest trading partner in ASEAN, while Viet Nam ranks fourth among Indonesia’s trading partners. Trade and economic cooperation have been a highlight in bilateral relations in recent years.

According to Nguyen Minh Nhut, the Consulate General of Indonesia in Ho Chi Minh City has actively organized and participated in practical activities to strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and promote cultural and people-to-people exchanges, as well as economic and investment ties between the two countries. These efforts have contributed to strengthening the friendship between the people of Ho Chi Minh City and the Indonesian community in the city, as well as between the people of Viet Nam and Indonesia.

Sending thanks to the city’s Union of Friendship Organizations for organizing the Independence Day celebration, Carolina Tinangon, Consul General of Indonesia in Ho Chi Minh City, said Viet Nam and Indonesia share similarities in their struggles for national independence and in their efforts to build and strengthen independence through development, progress, and continued efforts to realize their aspirations for a better, more prosperous future and the happiness and well-being of their people. 

The cultural exchange featured joint performances by Vietnamese and Indonesian artists showcasing the traditional cultures of both countries. The program reflected the spirit of cultural diplomacy, helping strengthen people-to-people diplomacy, deepen mutual understanding between the two peoples, and contribute to the increasingly strong friendship between Viet Nam and Indonesia.
