Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports Le Thi Anh Mai, emphasized that with its expanded administrative boundaries, Hanoi’s culture in general and its cuisine in particular has become richer and more diverse. Since 2014, the city has conducted inventories of intangible cultural heritage, through which hundreds of culinary heritages have been identified and included in the city’s official listings.

The inclusion of intangible cultural heritage in the National List is not only an act of recognition and honor, but also an effective measure for safeguarding and promoting heritage, transforming it into valuable assets and resources for the sustainable development of cultural industries, while contributing to improving local economic livelihoods.

The Hanoi Culinary Culture Festival 2025 will serve as a space where culinary artisans tell their stories and connect with younger generations. Alongside this are a wide range of activities, including thematic seminars; workshop-style demonstrations by artisans; cooking competitions among students from different schools; food tasting; heritage presentations; performances of circus arts, folk singing such as hat van, hat xam; and photo exhibitions, mobile book displays, and more.

Notably, at the opening ceremony of the Hanoi Culinary Culture Festival 2025, the organizers will announce the decision of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to inscribe “The knowledge of preparing and enjoying Cha ca La Vong (Hanoi)” on the list of national intangible cultural heritage. The program will also feature a meeting with the Doan family lineage, listening to stories passed down through five generations that gave rise to a dish deeply embedded in the collective memory of the people of Hanoi.
