The erection of neu tree on the New Year follows the traditional custom of the Kinh people to pay respect to deities, express gratitude to ancestors, ward off misfortune from the old year, protect peaceful life for people, and welcome the traditional Tet in peace and happiness, with hopes for renovation and greater success in the new year.
The chung cake-making activity will take place at the festival courtyard of the Ba Na ethnic group. This annual event is an occasion to demonstrate solidarity, mutual support and compassion, contributing to promoting the tradition of “the good leaves protect tattered ones,” toward a peaceful and better new year.
Attentively, the organizer plans to prepare some 610 gift packages, each valued at VND 2 million, to present to policy beneficiaries and disadvantaged households in Quang Tri and Cao Bang provinces, Yen Bai and Doai Phuong communes in Hanoi, some centers for victims of Agent Orange/dioxin; and ethnic communities living in the village, among others.
The “Chung cake - Tet for the Poor” program is organized to introduce domestic and international visitors to the distinctive cultural values of Vietnam’s traditional Tet celebration; to raise community awareness, with a focus on younger generations, of preserving, safeguarding and promoting the cultural identities of Vietnam’s ethnic groups.
