PANO - Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Thongsavanh Phomvihane held a solemn banquet on November 30th in Hanoi on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the National Day of the People’s Democratic Republic of Laos (December 2nd 1975 - December 2nd 2015). The event was attended by Politburo member and Head of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat Le Hong Anh, Vice State President Nguyen Thi Doan, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh, representatives of Vietnam's ministries and sectors and international organizations.

Addressing the event, the Lao ambassador highlighted the country's socio-economic achievements over the past 40 years, especially after 29 years of renovation. The country has made great economic strides, with an average GDP per capita exceeding US$ 1,700 in 2014, compared to only US$ 380 in 1995. It has also slashed the poverty rate to about 7 percent. The infrastructure for socio-economic activities has been increasingly upgraded, with new roads connecting districts, making great contributions to the national development, he added. Additionally, the official affirmed that the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam has been continuously strengthened in spite of the complicated development of global issues. The country's achievements won support from international friends, especially the Vietnamese people, he stressed.

On behalf of Vietnam's Party, State and people, Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan congratulated LPDR for their remarkable results over the past time and said that the Vietnamese government would always attach importance to boosting the friendship and multi-faceted cooperation with Laos for peace, stability and development in the region and the world as well.

She wished the country would continue achieving success in the national construction and defence cause, striving to build the nation into a country of peace, independence, democracy, and prosperity.

* Previously, a delegation of the Vietnam Ministry of National Defence, led by Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics Sen. Lt. Gen. Luong Cuong, visited and congratulated the Lao Embassy in Hanoi on the occasion of the 40th National Day of Laos.

* Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung also visited the Lao Embassy in Hanoi on the same day to congratulate the Lao Ambassador on his country's national day.
