Philippines ready for 14th Security Policy Conference

Defense officials from 27 ARF members will attend the event to exchange views on important security issues in the region. 

ASPC 14, part of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), will be held in Manila, the Philippines on June 29.

Vietnam’s delegation is led by Senior Lieutenant General Pham Ngoc Minh, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, who is expected to deliver a speech at the conference. 

Security has been tightened on all streets to Manila Hotel, where the ASPC 14 is taking place in order to ensure safety for all delegates. A large number of security personnel, counter-terrorism police and police dogs have been deployed to examine all vehicles and people around the venue. 

The ASPC 14 will share international and regional defense views, evaluating the development of reserved security forces amid new and complicated security issues as well as reconsidering regional security structure. 

Besides, the conference will also discuss emerging issues like international terrorism and maritime security, among others. 

The ARF was established in July 1994 in Thailand. Its members include 10 ASEAN countries and 10 dialogue partners (Australia, Canada, China, India, the EU, Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Russia and the US) and one observer (Papua New Guinea), along with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Mongolia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Timor Leste.
