At the reception, General Lich welcomed and highly appreciated the Vietnam visit of the ASEAN Secretary General, especially in the context that Vietnam is actively making preparations in all aspects for its ASEAN chairmanship in 2020 and hosting of ASEAN conferences and activities in the year.
The General stressed that to successfully fulfill its role as the ASEAN Chair in 2020, the National Committee on ASEAN 2020 and the Ministry of Defense have embarked on the preparation of contents, protocols, facilities and security from 2018.
The Vietnamese Defense Minister hoped to receive further professional support from the ASEAN Secretariat, especially in drawing up agendas for meetings, consulting other ASEAN members on ideas, compiling documents on new initiatives and holding professional training for those to be in charge of taking minutes at the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) and ADMM Plus meetings and other important meetings to be hosted by Vietnam next year.
ASEAN Secretary General Lim Jock Hoi affirmed that in his position he will support Vietnam in preparing for its ASEAN Chairmanship in 2020, contributing to building a strong ASEAN community and strengthening practical cooperation in various fields for peace and security in the region and the world.
The same day, the Minister of Defense of Vietnam received outgoing Cambodian Ambassador to Vietnam Prak Nguon Hong.
At the meeting, General Lich highlighted the fruitful development of the political relations as well as cooperation in economics, trade, culture, education, defense and security between the two countries over the last three years, contributing to promoting Vietnam-Cambodia relationship in an intensive and effective manner. Those achievements were largely contributed by the Cambodian Embassy in Vietnam in general and Ambassador Prak Nguon Hong in particular, Lich said.
The Vietnamese minister hoped that in any position Ambassador Prak Nguon Hong would contribute actively to strengthening the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia.
According to the out-going Cambodia Ambassador to Vietnam, over the past three years, the two countries successfully co-organized various activities to mark the Vietnam-Cambodia and Cambodia-Vietnam friendship year in 2017 and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Cambodia diplomatic ties.

He affirmed that those achievements were clear evidence of the thriving Vietnam-Cambodia relations, especially in defense and security. The Cambodian diplomat promised that he will continue making contribution to promoting the Vietnam-Cambodia solidarity, friendship and corporation in different fields.
