At the conference, Deputy Political Commissar of the Vietnam Coast Guard Command Senior Colonel Le Huy briefed participants on the role and missions of the Vietnamese coast guard force and its results in protecting sovereignty and enforcing law over the past time; potentials and importance of sea and islands to the Fatherland construction and defense; the Party’s guidelines and State’s policies and law on settling sea-related issues; security and safety situation on islands and at sea.

Local officials, people, teachers, students, veterans, and youths and troops also learnt about basic contents of the Vietnam Law of the Sea, the Law on Vietnam Coast Guard, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982; the outcomes of the dissemination of illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing prevention and control.

Through the event, the organizing panel expected to enhance people and troops’ knowledge about national sea and homeland; raise their awareness and responsibility for protecting sovereignty and maintaining security and order to build strong political system in border areas.

Within the conference, a photo exhibition was held. One hundred photos on national sea and islands and the Vietnamese coast guard force’s activities were showcased at Dien Bien’s Cultural Convention Center.
